We are not really ones for having a collection “theme”.

While there is often a general starting point, book, film, or movement that begins the process each season, the Universal Works’ collection is always a continuous development through the seasons.

AW17 begins with a sequence, the sequence of mixing the classic with the contemporary. The mixing of workwear and streetwear with classic tailoring is fast becoming the uniform of the Universal Works’ man, never set in one ‘genre’ or ‘look’.

This season continues our use of classic fabrics in basic cotton for our core lines, as well as British workwear fabrics like cotton drill and ‘Moleskin’. Traditional corduroy, tweed and melton wool sit alongside classic Scottish Harris Tweed and waxed cotton. To compliment and contrast we have waterproofed nylons, many with modern technical insulation as well as hints of blanket stripes and patterns running through the collection.

Our silhouettes are as relaxed as ever in our looser fitting pants, coach jackets, padded nylon gilets, oversized parkas and generous chunky knits. A few new styles also debut this season such as the collarless cabin jacket and loose turtle neck jersey as well as returning favourite cuts such as the battle waistcoat and sleeveless crew.

We’ll be adding new lines from the collection over the coming weeks so keep a look out online and in-store.
